Islamabad: The research scholars sent by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for higher studies, under a PHD programme, have disappeared in various cities of Europe. According to reports, Saima Ashfaq Khan was sent to the University of Glasgow for higher studies, at a cost of Rs7.0 million, which was funded by the government, however, she is still missing and has not returned to the country. Similarly, Mohiud Din was sent to Auckland University for higher studies at a cost of Rs5.7 million. He has also disappeared. Likewise, Amna Shahzad, Shakeela Jahangir, Khurram Nadeem, Qamar Sultan were sent to University of Holland, Kings College London, University of Albert, University of Dundee for higher studies at cost of Rs6.1 million, Rs8.2 million, Rs3.4 million, Rs7.2 million, respectively. According to law, if the candidates did not return to Pakistan, then they would pay the cost spend by the government, however, the HEC had not taken any measures for the recovering amount from them.
