MUZAFFARABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Monday said democracy was in danger not from the military but from the monarchy of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. “Pakistani people are more democratic than Turkish people. The prime minister should not be under the illusion that he would be spared from giving account of his offshore assets. We will come out onto the streets to protect democracy from monarchy,” he said while addressing a public gathering at Muzaffarabad.
He said it was unfortunate that rulers of the country started fulfilling their personal wishes after coming into power. “Inflation and unemployment is on the rise in the country since Nawaz Sharif’s government has come to power,” he said. Imran said the Pakistani people had thanked former president general (r) Pervez Musharraf when he took over the government through a military coup in 1999 and distributed sweets.
“We will form a free judicial commission which will hold everyone accountable, including Nawaz. We will give powers to the local govt,” he promised. The PTI chairman said he would not back away from pushing for an investigation into the Panama Leaks.
