ISLAMABAD: A two-day workshop titled “Scholarly Writing and Publishing” organised by the Department of English Studies of the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) under the UNT-NUML partnership programme, concluded on Tuesday.
Dr Masood Ashraf Raja – a renowned scholar and professor of Post-Colonial Literature and Theory in the University of North Texas USA – was the resource person of the workshop. Dr Masood talked about the need and importance of quality research and scholarly articles in the field of social sciences and humanities.
He laid stress upon the variety of ways in which research, scholarly writings and publications can enrich and inform society. He emphasised that teachers should come forward and get their works published as they contribute to knowledge and understanding of many issues faced by the world.
He also tried to raise awareness among the audience regarding the cultural, social and economical benefits of research in humanities and social sciences by pointing out the complex and diverse nature of linguistic texts and the way they are involved in philosophical thinking and deciphering of language.
In addition, the presenter also highlighted the ways in which researchers in the field of humanities are involved in educational and cultural activities and the ways in which academic research publications can be used for policy making and national development.
Through their scholarly articles and publications they can generate new narratives which endorse the aforementioned subject matter, he added. “We should realise the importance of training ourselves and our students to think critically and philosophically so that we may positively contribute to the national development,” he said.
