ISLAMABAD: Human Rights Minister Kamran Michael on Thursday informed the National Assembly (NA) in writing that the government is taking all possible measures to ensure protection and promotion of rights of women, children, minorities and disabled people.
He also said that changing and reviewing the existing honour killing-related law is the government’s priority. Legal advice is provided to the victims of human rights violations and programmes aimed at educating the people have been launched, he said, adding that seminars and electronic and print media advertisements are part of the campaign. Nine seminars were organised in Pakistan’s various universities.
Michael added Pakistan would become a member of Human Rights Commission in 2017. He said further police have been reactivated with reference to cases of child abduction. Directives have been issued to provide equipment to all departments. The ministry has received a summary from the Prime Minister’s Secretariat for the appointment of National Committee for Local Women’s chairperson.
