ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Friday said that the CPEC was the flagship project of the “One Belt, One Road” and this symbolises the resurgence of new Asia-based cooperation, connectivity and corridors.
He said this while addressing the ‘Information Ministers Forum’ at the China-Eurasia Conference in Urumqi. In his speech, Senator Mushahid said that the initiative of reviving the Silk Road represents the shift in the balance of economic and political power away from the West to the East. He said that the Chinese province of Xinjiang, which borders Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), was the future hub of cooperation and connectivity between Europe and Asia.
“Economic corridor is above any person, party and province,” he said, adding that it is a strategic national project, which seeks to unite the federation of Pakistan through progress and prosperity, particularly in the lesser developed parts like Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan and FATA.
He underlined that in this new emerging Asia, in which China is playing a pivotal role, Pakistan is opposed to any attempt at igniting a new cold war or any proxy war. The regional connectivity through economy, energy, education, ports, pipelines, roads and rail links were the need of the hour, he said. All Pakistanis had a strong commitment to building CPEC through consensus, transparency and inclusive development, he added.
The conference was attended by information ministers of China, Myanmar, Cambodia, Egypt, Belarus and representatives of Switzerland, Afghanistan and OIC. During his stay in Urumqi, Senator Mushahid also addressed as a keynote speaker at the Science and Technology Forum of the China-Eurasia Conference, which was also addressed by the prime minister of Tajikistan. He also addressed the publications and book expo, which was attended by the Chinese minister for film and publications and book publishers from 16 countries.
