PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif has said that no effort will be spared to clear all remote pockets and sleeper cells of terrorists till their total elimination from the country.
During his visit to Khyber Agency on Friday, the army chief met the frontline troops stationed along the Pak-Afghan border and appreciated their “highest state of morale and professionalism shown in fighting terrorists of various outfits hiding in the most rugged terrain”, according to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) communiqué.
The army chief was briefed in detail by the operational commander “on the progress of operations and gains consolidated so far”. He was told that clearance of the mountain passes in Rajgal area of Tirah Valley was a manifestation of Pakistan’s commitment to checking cross-border movement. The ISPR said that Rajgal was the most treacherous terrain, where terrorists were entrenched in the high mountain passes.
Vowing to eradicate terrorism from the country, the army chief told the troops that the nation and the Pakistan Army had paid a huge price in the fight against terrorism. He also directed the troops to enhance vigilance and adopt a proactive approach to stop any type of cross-border movement of terrorists. Earlier, upon his arrival, the COAS was received by Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman.
